Space to play

A court that’s 20 metres long and 10 metres wide. At around 50% of the size of a tennis court, a padel court is primed for rapid, strategic and close-quarter interactions.

No strings attached

A lessened-pressure ball, hit with a solid carbon fibre racquet with distinctive holes. Adult racquets weigh between 0.35-0.36kg, children’s racquets from 0.24kg.

Made for doubles

Originating in 1969 in Mexico as a game that family and friends can play together, whatever their level. Two players each side of the net try to outplay their opponents.

The serve

Underhand serves only in padel. Players stand behind the service line, hitting the ball into the service box of their opponent. It’s up to the opponent to return the ball back over the net.

The wall

On a volley or a bounce off the wall or ground, the ball is hit over the net to the opponent’s side. Players can hit the ball off their own wall, but this is quite advanced.

The points

Padel uses the same scoring system as tennis. Opponents win points if the ball hits the wall before the ground. The serving side wins points if the ball bounces twice and is unreturned.
